Greg Smith

Greg Smith is a seeker of telling moments and special places, who settled with his wife, Janet, in Westcliffe eight years ago. Before and since, he has steadily documented the landscape, people and wildlife of southern Colorado, much as he photographed the Lowcountry of South Carolina during the previous 27 years.

Known widely as photographer, writer, editor and producer, the Maryland native holds the National Press Photographers Association’s second highest honor and a Leadership Award from the U.N.’s International Photographic Council. His credits include the award-winning documentary “Keeping the May River Wild,” Gullah Home Cooking the Daufuskie Way for UNC Press and publications around the world.

Greg earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Visual Communication from Ohio University. He exhibits in galleries and at; teaches photography to all ages; accepts assignments for portrait, documentary, event and news projects; and serves on several local boards.
