The San Isabel Land Protection Trust’s service area encompasses 2.0 million acres including the Wet Mountain Valley and surrounding San Isabel Region of south-central Colorado. Approximately two thirds of our region remains unprotected from a variety of threats including aging ownership, agricultural abandonment, population growth and competing water and resource interests. Since 1995, we have worked with private landowners protecting nearly 36,000 acres of productive working land, scenic open space and important wildlife habitat. A non-political and non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, we believe in preserving our rural community’s quality of life and its natural and historical heritage, while supporting responsible development. Our office is located in beautiful Westcliffe Colorado.

Our Mission
San Isabel Land Protection Trust protects ranch, farm and forest lands, wildlife habitat, scenic views for public enjoyment, and historic resources.

News
  • After almost exactly two years as Executive Director of San Isabel Land Protection Trust, Katherine Ripley-Williams retired from that position in November. Katherine was a great asset to the office, bringing a sense of warmth and leadership to the daily operation of the organization and nicely rounding out our staff family. She worked diligently to build relationships with members of the local community and to expand our visibility in other communities within the scope of our work. Katherine’s efforts took the Land Trust’s operations to a new level of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness, and will benefit the organization for a long time to come.

Katherine and her husband, Roland Williams, moved from the Bay Area of California to Westcliffe so that she could assist with the development work of San Isabel. They now have a home on the west side of the Wet Mountain Valley and both have deep involvement with the local community. We are all grateful for the time that we had daily access to Katherine’s knowledge and skills and she will continue to support the work of SILPT.

Ben Lenth will add some of the duties that were previously Katherine’s to his land preservation work and will now assume the title of Director of Conservation.
