21st Art for the Sangres

Art for the Sangres enters its third decade of showcasing remarkable art for a vital cause – helping to protect land, water and wildlife while there is still time.

The event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at A Painted View Ranch just outside Westcliffe.

The fine art show and reception is San Isabel Land Protect Trust’s largest fundraiser. The land trust has protected more than 40,000 acres of working ranches, agricultural and forest lands, water resources, wildlife habitat and scenic open spaces throughout southern Colorado.

2017 Featured Artist: Sarah Woods

Sarah grew up in Wyoming, where she developed a love of wide open spaces and the wildlife that inhabit them. She has spent the past 26 years living in Westcliffe, with its scenic vistas and abundant wildlife. She attributes her crisp colors and strong lighting to her life at high altitude.

Sarah has been part of some of the nation's finest art shows: Birds in Art, National Museum of Wildlife Art's “Western Visions,” Art and the Animal Kingdom, Cheyenne Frontier Days and Arts for the Parks, where she was awarded the “Founder’s Favorite” and “Juror's Choice” Awards. Sarah has also participated in the Jackson Hole Art Auction, representing “past and present masters of the American West.” This year, she was invited to be a part of A Timeless Legacy, “continuing the Artistic Legacy of Glacier National Park.”

She has been with Trailside Galleries for 30 years and with The Broadmoor Galleries since their inception. She is proud participant for all 21 years of Art for the Sangres and says she's honored to be the featured artist. Sarah remembers watching as friends, sitting around the kitchen table, began talking about the idea that has blossomed and grown into the San Isabel Land Protection Trust of today.
